Jenks’ home

Beyond West Beach in Whitstable lies the area I imagined Jenks’ house is situated, leading down to the sea wall. The beach huts mentioned in the book are just visible on the far left of the photo, and the first creamy coloured house which is also pointed out in the story by the bait diggers is actually owned by a famous lady TV presenter, who I won’t name to protect her privacy.

I imagined fewer houses here, and Jenks’ home positioned about two or three along from the cream coloured one, with a large garden behind it accessed from a private road, which does actually exist behind the houses you can see.

This is one of the few quieter areas of Whitstable, and where a lot of birds come to feed, rest and do whatever birds do on the mudflats.
