Barney Burrell now lives a quiet life in view of the sea after a lifetime of doing this and that. Cutting his teeth in the newspaper industry in the late 70s-early 80s, he went on to open menswear shops until the big recession at the tail end of the 1980’s caused everything to crash and burn leaving him bankrupt with three children under five.

In later years he has dabbled in buying and selling vintage and antique items, particularly enjoying the restoration process. He is often to be found around the auction houses of Kent, ferreting around in dusty corners in search of something interesting and different, or when not writing, down in his shed working on his latest project and having a crafty Toscanello.

Jenks is my first book, and I found the writing process really fun and exciting. Some days I couldn’t stop through fear of losing my thought train, and wrote for more than eight hours at a time, crippling my poor neck and back.

It’s been a tight learning curve to say the least - I had no real idea what was involved after actually writing the book - numerous new drafts, proof reading, formatting, and then all the technical stuff which generally baffles me, due to having the IT skills of a new born baby. Thankfully a few good people generous with their time guided me in the right direction.

I’m also excited about Jenks II, the title as yet unknown. In an idle moment recently 5,500 words came pouring out, but I’ve no idea yet where the story is going, but that’s all part of the fun of writing. I do know that in the first few lines he kills thirteen people - unlucky for some..
